Havasupai horse rescued, finds forever home at Sunrise Horse rescue!
In April 2016, sisters Katie Migliavacca and Michelle Grinnell were on a hiking trip to legendary Havasupi Falls in the Grand Canyon. What they saw shocked them: it was the sight of several badly abused pack horses. One horse in particular caught their attention. He was clearly starving, suffering from severe malnutrition, and part of his spine was exposed due to open saddle sores. The two sisters worked hard to bring light to what they had seen, taking to social media and contacting multiple government agencies and animal rights groups, including the SAVE Foundation. The horse "Pace" was rescued and subsequently cared for at the Coconino County Humane Association in Flagstaff (AZ) where he quickly began his road to recovery. As long time volunteers with Sunrise Horse Rescue, Katie and Michelle asked for our help, and on September 3, 2016, Pace arrived at Sunrise Horse Rescue where he is being given the love, respect, and attention he so richly deserves!
