Rosemary

Sunrise Horse Resemary

Rosemary and her daughter, Willow, were abandoned at a stable in Walnut Creek, CA. They shared a small paddock together for 5 years. They came to Sunrise together in August 2022. Rosemary is an appaloosa who suffers from Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU), also known as moon blindness. The disease is painful and can lead to permanent damage and vision loss. Early treatment can help alleviate some of the vision loss and pain. Fortunately, we caught Rosemary’s moon blindness early and she now receives anti-inflammatories to help with the pain and prevent damage from the condition. Rosemary also experiences arthritis and shows scarring on her legs and back which indicates she might have been used in horse tripping, a rodeo event in which galloping horses are roped by the legs and pulled to the ground. This practice is outlawed in California. When Rosemary came to Sunrise, she was also noticeably underweight and had sand in her intestines. She now looks forward to her 3 meals per day and she will continue to receive appropriate nutritional treatment. We believe she and Willow deserve a new start and we are so happy to have them here with us at Sunrise.
